RETRO-GULF WAR-FRENCH SOLDIERS

French soldiers patrol 27 February 1991 next to a mural of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in the town of Salman, far inside southern Iraq. Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait 02 August 1990, ostensibly over violations of the Iraqi border, led to the Gulf War which began 16 January 1991. A US-led multi-national force repulsed Iraq from Kuwait and a cease-fire was signed 28 February 1991.
